Rizal

. . . [S]ee how ashamed we are to talk in our dialects, which many of our countrymen pretend they do not know. All races, including savages, have their type of beauty, but for us there is only one type that is beautiful: as near the caucasion type as possible. Our women, by means of white-wash and cosmetics, want to appear more or less white, forgetting that the color kayumanggi also has its charms to those who are without prejudice.
